Interception, interdiction and insertion are three examples of maritime Special Operations Forces (SOF). These all have some common functional characteristics and often use what appear to be similar High Speed Craft (HSC). But it is the platform’s details that illustrate the different operational demands and requirements. The Air Force doesn’t expect a single plane to deliver all its required operations—they need both the Apache helicopter and the C130 transport. Today’s asymmetric warfare requires SOF to be agile, capable and rapidly deployable, all without the need for numerous specialist transport platforms. Future rapid deployment will only be achievable with the design and development of highly efficient platforms capable of meeting the challenging and changing operational demands.......
